[Movie Review] The Commuter

In this action packed thriller, Liam Neeson plays an insurance salesman, Michael, on his daily commute home, which quickly becomes anything but routine. After being contacted by a mysterious stranger, Michael is forced to uncover the identity of a hidden passenger on his train before the last stop. As he works against the clock to solve the puzzle, he realizes a deadly plan is unfolding and is unwittingly caught up in a criminal conspiracy. One that carries life and death stakes, for himself and his fellow passengers.

Watched The Commuter at Shaw lido earlier yesterday evening! This film was released last month, on 11 January. Since then, I've always wanted to catch it. Thankfully, there was still show-time available over at Shaw theatres.

Personally, I enjoyed this film as a whole package. It was well-crafted with a good story flow. It had many intense moments which certainly kept me at the edge of my seat. Not to miss out those action scenes that were nicely depicted. Overall, it was suspenseful and had an unexpected twist as though I'm watching a Japanese film. An engaging movie indeed.

If you adore such genre of film, do catch it on Shaw lido before it go off screen!

[Singapore Movie Review] Wonderful! Liang Xi Mei The Movie 旺德福!梁细妹

Liang Xi Mei (Jack Neo) is finally back! Having retired, Liang Xi Mei spends her time looking after her two obedient grandsons. However, Liang Xi Mei still leads a colorful life thanks to her absent-minded BFF Guang Dong Po (Wang Lei), who frequently muddles things up, leaving Liang Xi Mei to resolve the mess; and Lion King (Henry Thia) who is now diagnosed with mild Alzheimer’s, causing confusion and frustrations for everyone. Robert (Mark Lee), Liang Xi Mei’s eldest son also adds to her woes. Robert is a dreamer who often schemes to get rich quick. This causes Liang Xi Mei to find him unreliable and puts all her hopes on her youngest son Albert (Benjamin Josiah Tan). Her favoritism stirs up jealousy within Robert, who vows to strike it rich to win back Liang Xi Mei’s approval.

Watched Wonderful! Liang Xi Mei The Movie 旺德福!梁细妹 with mum on 年初二.

Though the trailer appear not too promising for me, we still decided to catch it, just to support Jack Neo's production during CNY.

Just as the title of the film, the story was about Liang Xi Mei 梁细妹. However,  it did not turn out as good as expected. The variety sitcom on television was way much better. The plot itself was weak without a rich content. As the story continues, it appear draggy and dull without much anticipation. It showcase more on public awareness and maybe Ribena advertisement?

Perhaps the only saving grace was when Richie Koh 许瑞奇 appear in those few scenes which brighten up the entire show. It was heart-warming and educated us the importance of kinship.

If you are expecting something similar to previous Jack Neo's films, I will suggest you skip this one.

[Movie Review] Maze Runner: The Death Cure

In the epic finale to the Maze Runner saga, Thomas leads his group of escaped Gladers on their final and most dangerous mission yet. To save their friends, they must break into the legendary Last City, a WCKD-controlled labyrinth that may turn out to be the deadliest maze of all. Anyone who makes it out alive will get answers to the questions the Gladers have been asking since they first arrived in the maze.

Watched Maze Runner: The Death Cure with Jiewei at GV paya lebar!

I have been looking forward to it after The Maze Runner and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials! I totally enjoyed this installment for its compact story that was wonderfully crafted. Also, it had a promising opening action sequel that was commendable.

The story flow and progression of its scenes were nicely presented. With that, it kept me engaged throughout the show. Not to forget, those intense and thrilling moment that kept me at the edge of the seat.

In order to grasp this particular film, remember to catch the 1st and 2nd instalment. I thought that the finale had a balance between happy and sad endings. It was definitely a good closure to the entire series though I hope there would be another sequel to it.
