Our Times《我的少女时代》Movie Review

We all had to live through and rise above the awkward years in high school, and regardless how long it may have been a distant past you wish to forget, there's always a beautiful memory somewhere waiting to be awakened. A joyful moment that truly belongs to you. An ordinary high school girl Lin Truly (played by Vivian Sung) pines over the most popular guy in school Ouyang Extraordinary (played by Dino Lee). The school's troublemaker Hsu Taiyu (played by Ta Lu Wang) falls for the prettiest girl in school Tao Minmin (played by Dewi Chien). Together, Truly and Taiyu, work through misadventures to help each other win their dream dates. Through this youthful rite of passage, their friendship evolves and they learn a thing or two about true love.

Watched Our Times《我的少女时代》with Wei Ren in the late afternoon.

I heard that this show is similar to you are the apple of my eye - 那些年 我們一起追的女孩 with many awards nomination. Hence, I have been looking forward to catch this film since the release in Taiwan!

Personally, I feel that this film was nicely depicted with a compact story-line. Initially, the plot may appear to be a duplication of 那些年 我們一起追的女孩. However, these two films are different in their own ways.

I never expect the twist for this character - Hsu Taiyu. A gangster who was previously a good student in school. Due to certain incident, He changed. The focus on this character make this film more enjoyable. It also triggers certain memories one may encounter during high school. The humorous and touching scenes were nicely injected as well.

Towards the finale, Lin Truly found out the hidden truth about Hsu Taiyu. The gesture that He done, portrayed the meaning of true love.

A good and touching romance film!

[Media Invitation] Ciao@: Family-friendly Italian bar cum restaurant open its doors!‏

Was invited to a media tasting: Ciao@: Family-friendly Italian bar‏!

Here at Ciao@ Singapore is where you can savour quality homespun Italian cuisines. Be tantalised by the aroma wafting through the air, and get whisked away to the rustic sceneries of northern and southern Italy. The restaurant makes an ideal address for gatherings with friends and loved ones. Televisions have been set up, so families can enjoy their meals and catch exciting sports matches at the same time. The bar also boasts a glorious arsenal of premium Italian wines, curated from 21 regions in Italy.

Focaccia Al Rosmarino

This Italian bread is enriched with aromatic olive oil and topped with fresh rosemary and garlic! It was nicely prepared with a good texture that is not too flavourful.

Pizzawich

This dish tasted okay though it could have been better with a thin layer of crust to truly enjoy the ingredients that was stuffed within.

Tartufina

Particularly, I enjoyed this pizza pretty much. The crust was nicely prepared with a aromatic and truffle paste that was evenly spread on its base. It complement pretty well as a whole.

Calamari

Pan-fried Calamari with pine nuts, cherry tomato and olive taggiasche! I like its pillowy texture that was rather appetizing.

Ravioli Di Ricotta

A rather authentic Italian dish that stands on its own. This handmade pasta is stuffed with spinach and ricotta cheese, and then soused in fresh tomato sauce. Surprisingly, it turn out quite good with a this unique combination.

Sughe D’ Magre

This plate of linguine, accompanied with tuna anchovies as well as green olives and then immersed in a pool of tomato sauce, is bound to delight. The texture of its pasta could have been fine-tuned, with a slight savory added for better taste. A dish for the tuna lovers out there!

Stinco Di Maiale Alla Birra

This beer-marinated pork knuckle was nicely prepared with a pretty presentation. I like its tender texture that is easy to munch without any difficulty. It is also served with mashed potato and cabbage. Try it with the cabbage as it gives you a pleasant surprise to your taste bud.

Death Note (Japanese Drama) Review

Light Yagami (Masataka Kubota) is an ordinary university student. One day, he receives a death note which changes his life. The death note awakens his warped sense of justice and genius. He becomes murderer Kira and punishes criminals.

L (Kento Yamazaki) is a well known private detective. L appears in front of Light Yagami. L defines Kira as evil and decides to catch Kira. Then N (Mio Yuki), who has a beautiful appearance but dangerous existence, appears.

Finished watching this Japanese series - Death Note. Before the drama, there was a 2 parts film based on the Death Note manga (and later anime) series by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. I did not read the manga nor watch the anime. However, I did watched the death note movie series. Thus, I decided to catch the drama.

Personally, I felt that this drama was pretty good. The story build up may appear slow but it got better in terms of its suspense and clever strategies injected. It led me to ponder and follow closely each episodes. In order to capture Kira, L has pre-planned everything ahead. The evidence just falls in place with you least expected.

In comparison, I prefer the drama over the movie series for its well-crafted plot.

The above will be a movie sequel for death note in 2016! Am looking forward to it!

[Media Invitation] More than just pies! Pies & Coffee launches new savoury hot meals

Was invited to a media tasting: More than just pies! Pies & Coffee launches new savoury hot meals‏!

Founded in 2011, the brand is known for its array of buttery, shortcrust pastries and robust coffee blends. With its cosy ambience and congenial vibe, Pies & Coffee makes an ideal address for family and friends to gather and enjoy tête-à-têtes.

Pies  &  Coffee  is proud to present a greater dining experience that extends beyond the enjoyment of pies! It has  added  several  marquee  mainstays  to  its  menu  and  now  promises  the  ultimate gastronomic experience.

Lobster Bisque Baked Rice

A flavourful dish that was nicely prepared together with flower crabs, prawns and slipper lobsters to bring out its own sweet taste.

Clam Chowder

I  adore the richness of this soup that tasted not too salty nor blend. White clams are stir-fried with onions, carrots, potatoes, celeries and mixed herbs before fresh clam juice is added to the potpourri. It complement well with the nicely made crusty bread bowl.

Beef Cheek

This is definitely my favourite pie! I like the texture of the beef chunks that was tender and complement best with the crust!

Barbecue Chicken Pie in Beetroot Crust

If you are a fan of a BBQ flavour, I think you will adore this more than me. Personally, I thought the taste was slightly too flavourful and exotic for me.

Croque Monsieur

What could possibly go wrong with Mozzarella cheese, turkey ham and chicken! I adore this dish pretty much as a whole. A rather appetizing dish to try!

Curry Chicken Pot Pie

A local dish with a twist! I thought that the presentation was creative and interesting. The curry itself was rather spicy that overpowered the overall taste. It could have been better if it was less spicy with a slight sweetness to enhance its flavour.

Sticky Date Cake

The cake itself was served warm with a moist texture. It tasted good as it was not extremely sweet. It goes well with the ice-cream though I thought that it tasted slightly too sweet for me.
