Death Note (Japanese Drama) Review

Light Yagami (Masataka Kubota) is an ordinary university student. One day, he receives a death note which changes his life. The death note awakens his warped sense of justice and genius. He becomes murderer Kira and punishes criminals.

L (Kento Yamazaki) is a well known private detective. L appears in front of Light Yagami. L defines Kira as evil and decides to catch Kira. Then N (Mio Yuki), who has a beautiful appearance but dangerous existence, appears.

Finished watching this Japanese series - Death Note. Before the drama, there was a 2 parts film based on the Death Note manga (and later anime) series by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. I did not read the manga nor watch the anime. However, I did watched the death note movie series. Thus, I decided to catch the drama.

Personally, I felt that this drama was pretty good. The story build up may appear slow but it got better in terms of its suspense and clever strategies injected. It led me to ponder and follow closely each episodes. In order to capture Kira, L has pre-planned everything ahead. The evidence just falls in place with you least expected.

In comparison, I prefer the drama over the movie series for its well-crafted plot.

Ratings: 3.8/5

The above will be a movie sequel for death note in 2016! Am looking forward to it!
