[Toggle Originals] Soul Reaper 勾魂使者 Drama Review

Soul – a boy born with a pretty face and mesmerising smile, could appear before your eyes in a flash of light when you least expect it. Brace yourself for the deathly verdict when you see him, because Soul, is whom we all know as the Grim Reaper. Soul Lin Guang Hui (Ian Fang) leads an ordinary life until the sudden, mysterious passing of his father, Ping An (Yao Wen Long). He then meets ‘Chief’ (Romeo Tan), who promises to reveal the truth behind his father’s death, but on one condition – Soul to become a Grim Reaper.

Just finished watching Soul Reaper 勾魂使者, which was shown only in Toggle. A supernatural film which reminded me of a Japanese drama which I watched 2 years ago - Shinigami Kun. Most likely, the concept was reference from the mentioned series.

Personally, I felt that the story was refreshing and interesting. Those on the brink of death (7 days) was given 2 choices:

1. To make up for your regrets before a willing death
2. To have a loved one die on your behalf.

With the different scenario depicted in every 2 episodes, it heightens the entire series. There were also certain learning values on life which somewhat reminded me to treasure time and people.

The finale was rather predictable for such a show. Honestly, I was expecting it to be different.

You may wish to catch the entire series here.

The Magnificent Seven Movie Review

Director Antoine Fuqua brings his modern vision to a classic story in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ and Columbia Pictures’ The Magnificent Seven. With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns—Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.

Watched The Magnificent Seven with Celeste last weekend. Decided to catch it because we heard good reviews for this show.

Personally, I felt that the film was compact and rather classic on its own. Initially, the story may appear draggy and predictable but somewhat, it got better with the intense scenes.

The Magnificent 7, each has their own strengths/capability and that itself made it interesting. A pity that the development of its character was minimal. Also, the plot was quite weak and could have been developed further.

The finale certainly heightened the entire story. An average yet entertaining western-action film!

[Sony Pictures] Sausage Party Preview Screening

Sausage Party, the first R-rated CG animated movie, is about one sausage leading a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave the grocery store. The film features the vocal talents of a who’s who of today’s comedy stars – Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, David Krumholtz, Edward Norton, and Salma Hayek.

Was invited as one of the bloggers to catch Sausage Party Preview Screening! I brought Celeste along.

Personally, I felt that the story was simple, refreshing but however, predictable. The introductory was brief and could have been further developed. Though it focused particularly on those few characters, it was somewhat entertaining as a whole. The CG animation was detailed and nicely presented.

For this show, my favourite character was Barry. Initially, He may appear to be timid but with the many circumstances surfaced, He actually stands out better and stronger among his peers.

This film will be out in cinemas on 6 October 2016.
